Problems with the EB5 visa
Sadly it seemed inevitable that the EB5 visa would eventually have complaints involving police investigations regarding alleged fraud – it seems so often immigrants are vulnerable to such practices and sometimes to be honest are either naive and to trusting or simply arrogant believing they know the answers - many feel they have undertaken sufficient research or have had a considerable business experience and cannot be caught out - although the alleged high profile scams show even the most experienced and affluent can become a victim of fraud!
Both the E2 and L1 visa routes have had a fairly long record involving cases of fraud ranging from false promises, dodgy businesses, issues with one stop shops with a number of people doing time in prison for a range of offenses scamming immigrants, although justice may have been served this does not always get victims money or life back
There have now been alleged cases of fraud related to the EB5 visa. The cases under investigation have not been related to the regional centers but involve a one stop shop which allegedly claimed to be working on behalf of a regional centre. Interestingly a well respected expat site contained a blog where a potential client sought advice regarding the trustworthiness of this company – the response from a previous client was glowing – you just cannot be too careful!
