I recently spent a weekend looking around an emigration exhibition which bought back to me memories of my own family’s emigration process many years ago.
At a similar emigration exhibition all those years ago my family, as part of our research, were looking around and talking to the exhibitors searching for more information about our move to America.
We, like many others, made an assumption that the exhibition organizers had checked through the exhibitors’ backgrounds and we could assume that all would be well. However, that was clearly not the case as at least two of the exhibitors from that exhibition are now in prison or under investigation by US Federal authorities!
We remain concerned just how vulnerable those planning to immigrate to the USA can be, particularly potential immigrants failing to take independent advice on the EB-5 visa.

For several years we have been monitoring developments with the EB-5 visa and have noticed with concern an increasing trend on seminars being advertised in the USA to business people highlighting the EB5 program as good way to attract capital for new projects. There appears to be an ever increasing number of businessmen seeking to raise foreign investor capital for their projects which are unable to raise capital from more conventional methods. Many EB-5 investors are concerned about obtaining their EB-5 visa by the safest method, keeping it, and then seeing the return of their $500,000 investment. They do not want to be investing in a high risk, speculative investment that could see them lose their visa as well as some or all of their $500,000 investment.
Not all EB-5 regional center programs are equally safe, some are well proven have had many investors from different countries throughout the world and have a 100% rate of success whereas others are speculative unproven programs where the risk falls totally on the investor if anything goes wrong.
Unfortunately a number of the seminars being promoted are likely to encourage the creation of potentially unsuitable and highly risky EB-5 regional center programs which pose considerable danger for the EB-5 immigrant investor.
If you are considering the EB-5 investor visa and would like more information on which programs have a 100% success record contact us via email at info@whicheb5.com or simply register for all the information you need on the EB-5 visa program.

I spent a weekend recently reviewing an emigration exhibition and it bought back to me memories of my own family’s emigration process. At that very same emigration exhibition ten years ago my family, as part of our research, (my wife Siri and children Kris then 14 and Candice then 12) were trawling through the exhibitors looking for help with our move to America. We, like most attendees, made an assumption that the exhibition organizers had checked through the exhibitors background and credentials and all would be well. Despite my due diligence we were caught out when our goods were shipped out from UK to the USA by a company who were at the exhibition and we ended up paying twice, even though we had been careful even to the extent of checking out their depot!
Although other elements of the move all those years ago were OK, and the family are now US citizens, it is worrying that giving seminars on emigration at that exhibition ten years ago was a man by the name of Derek Coles of the New Horizons group. This man is now under investigation by U.S. authorities regarding allegations involving client funds for EB-5. E2 and L1 visas. There seem to have been a steady stream of such problems over the years with emigrants losing their life savings.
We remain concerned just how vulnerable those planning to immigrate to the USA can be and it is comforting to see that those who plan well and utilize advice can have a happy ending. See comments here.

A number of immigrants considering relocation to the USA find it useful to go to an immigration exhibition. These can provide an opportunity to obtain information from presenters identified as experts and talk to a number of exhibitors.
There is a perspective that by talking to stand holders at exhibitions gives a feeling of insurance, as presumably they have been checked out by the exhibition organizers, particularly if the organizers are a well known magazine or promoter.
It needs to be remembered however that exhibition organizers do not always have the facilities to check out all the companies who are exhibiting and in the past this has led to occasional problems with rogue traders.
Currently there are investigations by the FBI into allegations against New Horizons and Derrick Coles regarding missing escrow funds.
New Horizons presented free immigration and property seminars and also featured at a number of emigration shows for several years, giving advice at the invitation of the organizers as expert speakers. However, following recent developments an article in a local paper alleged a history of problems which a comprehensive background check could have exposed see the article here http://www.derickcoles.com/Images/lymingtontimes.pdf
Sadly we have been made aware of a number of other problems arising from information given at exhibitions subsequently involving potential scams or false information where emigrants have applied for visas through an illegal scheme losing not just the opportunity for a visa, but also their life savings. Although there have subsequently been prosecutions and TV coverage warning others, these have not helped the unfortunate victims.
Although these issues affect only a small minority of immigrants they obviously have a devastating impact on the victims – for more information on the fraud issues we are aware of click here
